Nurses Are Superheroes 4th Annual Event!
Posted about 1 year ago in Events
On Saturday October 14th we had another Nurses Are Superheroes 5K/1K Fun run or walk. This was our 4th annual event. The main event was at Sugarhouse Park but there was a group of BYU students that also gathered at BYU to participate together registered as virtual participants.
Our speaker this year was our former president Matthew Anderson. He came dressed as a mild-mannered Clark Kent and then removed his jogging outfit to reveal a superman outfit. He spoke on our typical image of superheroes and quoted Stan Lee on the definition of a hero - "A… definition of a hero is someone who is concerned about other people’s well-being, and will go out of his or her way to help them—even if there is no chance of a reward. That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt, a real superhero.” So while nurses may not meet the image of what a superhero is, they are individuals who are concerned about others and help them. He shared about some of the challenges nursing faces and on holding on to moments that fill you up to help cope with times that are more difficult. He acknowledged the good that nurses have done, are doing, and will do in the future.
For our nursing student challenge we had a tie between BYU and the U of U!
We are grateful for the businesses that donated to support the event, those who donated to support the event, those who attended to support, and all those who love and support nurses.
Thank you to our board member Kirsten for all of her efforts in putting on such a great event.
